VISR method developed by Providence Photonics for flare compliance monitoring has been published by EPA as method OTM-56

Updated: May 1

On Monday, April 29, 2024, the U.S. EPA has published Other Test Method 56 (OTM-56) for monitoring flare regulatory compliance parameter NHVcz (or NHVdil for perimeter air assisted flares). This is a significant milestone because there has been no EPA method for flare efficiency monitoring other than procedures specified in recent flare regulations.

OTM-56 uses the Video Imaging Spectral Radiometry (VISR) method developed by Providence Photonics to remotely and automatically monitor flare regulatory compliance parameter NHVcz (or HNVdil) at a fraction of the cost of the method specified in regulations. OTM-56 is embedded in the Mantis Lite flare monitor developed, manufactured, and marketed by Providence Photonics. OTM-56 forms the technical foundation for an alternative method to NSPS Subpart OOOOb/c flare monitoring requirements.

Strategies to comply with the flare monitoring requirements in OOOOb/c, including the use of OTM-56 to reduce cost, will be discussed in a webinar to be hosted by Providence Photonics on May 7th, 2024, the day OOOOb becomes effective. Register now to attend:
